What kind of boat is Agora?
A 2005 Beneteau First 47.7 – 48′ racer/cruiser monohull with a 70’ mast and 7’ draft. She’s fast, sturdy, and unique.
How do you handle storms or bad weather?
We check weather religiously, choose our windows carefully, and avoid heroics. Safety is always the priority.
When it’s stormy or the weather is bad and we’re at anchor, we hunker down and read, play games, or do some shared screen time.
What made you decide to live on a boat?
We wanted less rush, more simplicity, and the chance to be fully present with our growing family while cherishing the world around us – together. Barrett grew up racing sailboats, and Susanna loves being on the water.
(Also, it was Barrett’s idea.)
Can I follow your journey elsewhere?
Yes! You can follow us on Instagram @sailing.agora.
How do you cook on board?
We’re mastering cooking in small spaces and experimenting with new recipes while keeping old favorites in the rotation. We eat a lot of one pot meals to minimize dishes & maximize time – but sometimes we go wild and make lasagna or full breakfasts with pancakes, bacon, and eggs!
Are you homeschooling your kids?
We withdrew the kids from preK at their neighborhood school in April 2025, and we spent the first months of our journey simply adjusting to full-time cruising – building routines and embracing their interests. When kindergarten started, we began homeschool (aka boatschool) with a blend of structured curriculum, hands-on exploration, and life lessons on the water.
